Spreadsheet 2 - Grades

This spreadsheet was a little more difficult to create. One of the important educational techniques we learned in this assignment was how to use your resources available to find a necessary answer. Using the help menu we had to know how to search for the specific formula that we were looking for. Once you find the formula it is easy to place into your worksheet.

This spreadsheet had a great deal to do with embedding formulas inside of other formulas by the use of parentheses. This is a more advanced area of excel, which I believe takes understanding how to read a formula. The parentheses have the same effect in excel as they do in Mathematical Operations. Whatever is inside the parentheses takes place first then you move outwards.

While this was a more difficult spreadsheet I do not feel that it was impossible to do, it just took more effort then basic calculations in Microsoft Excel.

Spreadsheet 1 - Grades

Microsoft Excel is a great program to use for grades and other documents in which you want to perform a calculation. In my content area I teach students how to complete these formulas and functions.

Google Documents is a great feature from google. You can upload a document onto there. Once a document is on google documents you can continue to make edits and access the document anywhere you get Internet access.

Below you will find a link to the spreadsheet I created in excel. I uploaded this spreadsheet onto google docs and published it as a web page so that you may view it at the link below.

Survey - Zoomerang

In this assignment we were asked to create a survey in Zoomerang. In Zoomerang you can create free surveys in which you can choose a variety of options for your questions. I choose to do my survey on event planning. In a high school setting Student Council or the Senior Class officers will need to create an event for seniors to participate in. A good way for these students to find out what type of event their classmates would like; would be to create a survey. I created an example survey based on this idea. In this survey students are asked a variety of questions related to a senior activity or event.

I think this is a great idea to find out information about students in either your class or in the school. It can be beneficial in the educational setting in many ways. You could even ask parents to participate in a survey to help you better understand your students.

Google Form

We were asked to create a form. At first I was going to choose an educational item to do a form on, then I decided to do a survey on something a little more fun. I choose to do a survey on Pets. This could be used for personal use or use in the classroom as an ice breaker on the first day. There are many other additional topics that you could use as a survey for the purpose of an ice breaker. Google even gives you the option of creating a summary of the data. If you are to use quantitative data you will be able to represent your results in a graph and use that as a class discussion, if you do not want to single out students. This is a neat tool that can really aid in classroom instruction.

Below you will find my survey. Try it!

Online Graphing Tool

Online Graphing Tool

There are a variety of ways that one can create a graph, using a graphing program, Microsoft excel or word, or using an online resource. In this activity we used Kid's Zone - Create a Graph, to create our graph. This is a very simple program to use in which you simply choose the design of your graph and enter the necessary data, the site will produce the graph for you to be saved in a variety of file formats or even e-mailed to you. This is a great tool, that could be used in many classrooms at all levels. It will serve as a great visual aid tool in classrooms, to help the visual learners.

Jing Screencast

As an educator Jing is a great tool. Especially if you are planning on being out of the classroom and need to explain something to your students that a substitute might not be able to, Jing will work wonders. It is a great tool to use wether you are in the classroom, or out of the classroom. If you have a website for your class, you could add the link onto your website as an instructional/study aid to your students. There are a variety of ways that Jing could be useful to an educator.

I chose to do my Jing Screencast on Microsoft 2008 on a MAC computer. As the school I did my student teaching in had Mac computers and the students were using Microsoft 2008, this would be a great instructional tool. In this short video I describe and show some of the options in Microsoft 2008 and compare those options to Microsoft Word used on a windows operating system.

Batchgeo - Map It

Batchgeo is a program in which you can provide information about locations and create a map. This is a great tool and the best part is that it's FREE!

Education is ever changing by the advances in education, with each new day we are able to incorporate technology into our lessons. Technology helps grasp the attention of our students and improve their learning expereince. As educators we need to be prepared for daily changes in the world of technology and be prepared to adapt to those changes.

This activity is great in aiding 21st Century Skills as an educator. This cool activity could be used in classrooms ranging from the elementary schools up to the high schools. It would be a great activity for geography classes or sciences classes wishes to represent a map with locations. In a classroom setting you could use the student's addresses, addresses of differnt businesses, or addresses of various important locations. This is a great tool to use in many different lessons and classes. It applies to the different modalities of learning and aids the students who are visual learners!

Self- Portrait

Using Picassohead was very interesting to say the least. At first I was frustrated that I couldn't get my self portrait to look the way I wanted it too; however after messing with the features I found that you could overlap the options to make the appearance of the Picassohead appear the way you wanted. I think this was a very easy program to use.

This could be used in the classroom when talking about technology and the representation of yourself. In a high school setting this could be used in both Technology Courses and Psychology Course very easy, with the students explaining why the represented their self in the way they did, and how technology helped them create this representation.

I used the the Picassohead Website to create my image.

Below you will see the image I created.

Snipping Tool

The Snipping Tool is a tool that is used on a Microsoft Operating System to capture a part of the screen and saved that capture in a picture format for later use. This is a great tool, and while I was aware of the screen shot option, I was unaware of the Snipping Tool. I have a Macbook and in the Linux Operating System it is called the Grab Tool and is used in a very similar way, with similar results. For this project I had to use a computer with a Microsoft Operating System, so I could complete the necessary steps.

Below you will find the image I captured using the Snipping Tool.

I created this document, and used the Snipping Tool to demonstrate how the use of the Snipping Tool would be beneficial to me. I could use this image in a Business Computer Application Course when we are concentrating on Excel Instruction. Using the specific Image I could show what the SUM Function looks like, and how it should be correctly typed. This will prove to be very beneficial in a classroom setting.
